Summary/Objective

The Project Engineer is a project-focused role requiring strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills within a technology-driven construction environment. This position supports the Project Team through effective coordination, documentation, and process management while building technical knowledge of construction practices. Continued development of both professional and technical skills is essential to success in this role and long-term career growth.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all project documentation, including plans, specifications, Owner and Contractor agreements, subcontracts, purchase orders, correspondence, shop drawings, submittals, and related records, ensuring accurate and complete as-built documentation.
  • Manage and execute the project submittal process using the designated project management software.
  • Create, track, and maintain Requests for Information (RFIs), coordinating closely with the Project Manager and Project Assistant.
  • Solicit and obtain pricing from subcontractors and material suppliers for change orders.
  • Respond to inquiries from subcontractors and superintendents regarding drawing scope and coordination.
  • Assist with the buyout of specific, clearly defined scopes of work, as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Establish and maintain organized digital drawing sets, including hyperlinking drawing packages for both internal and external use.
  • Support daily job documentation through the company’s reporting software.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and Company Safety Manager to develop, implement, maintain, and enforce the Project-Specific Safety Plan.
  • Lead the closeout process by coordinating documentation and demonstrating ownership of project completion requirements.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, municipal authorities, and internal company personnel.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a resource or mentor to other team members.

Work Environment

The Project Engineer works primarily in a professional office environment and regularly visits active construction sites. Jobsite conditions may include outdoor work and participation in safety training. Required personal protective equipment must be worn as appropriate.

Physical Demands

The role requires extended periods of sitting and routine use of office equipment, which may result in eye or muscle strain. Occasional lifting of office materials or supplies up to 15 pounds is required. Jobsite visits may involve climbing ladders and navigating uneven terrain.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

This is a full-time, exempt position. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, with an expectation of 40 hours per week. Evening or weekend work may be required based on project needs.

Travel

Travel is primarily local and includes visits to job sites, project meetings, and occasional training or educational events.

Required Education And Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic understanding of information technology

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Four-year degree in a construction-related field
  • OSHA 10-hour certification
  • Experience with construction-related software (e.g., Bluebeam, Viewpoint, Revit, Microsoft Project)
  • Experience in commercial or industrial construction

Work Authorization/Clearances

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol screening
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Satisfactory motor vehicle record review
  • Valid driver’s license
