2nd Shift Shop Foreman – Structural Steel Fabrication
Speedway Steel | Full-Time | 2nd Shift (3:30pm-12am)
About the Role
Speedway Steel is looking for an experienced 2nd Shift Foreman to lead our structural steel fabrication shop. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for driving production, maintaining quality standards, and keeping the shift running safely and efficiently. Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all 2nd shift fabrication personnel including fitters, welders, and material handlers
- Coordinate daily work assignments to meet production schedules and project deadlines
- Read and interpret structural steel drawings, shop tickets, and weld symbols
- Enforce quality standards and ensure all work meets project specs, AWS D1.1, and AISC requirements
- Conduct toolbox talks and enforce all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and company policies
- Track and report shift productivity, material usage, and any equipment or personnel issues
- Collaborate with the day shift foreman and production manager to ensure seamless handoffs
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks, material shortages, or fit-up issues in real time
- Mentor and develop fabrication crew members
- Assist with fit up & welding when necessary.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop floor
Qualifications Required
- 5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication
- 2 years in a lead or foreman role supervising a fabrication crew
- Strong ability to read structural drawings and fabrication shop tickets
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding standards and AISC fabrication requirements
- Proven ability to manage crew performance and hold people accountable
- Solid understanding of fit-up, layout, and weld sequencing
- Ability to obtain a welding certification
Preferred
- AWS CWI or CWS certification
- Experience with AISC-certified shop operations
- Familiarity with common ERP or job tracking software
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
Schedule & Compensation
- Shift: Monday – Friday, 3:30PM – 12 AM (or similar; schedule may vary by production demand)
- Pay: Competitive, based on experience
