KEY PURPOSE:
The Senior Technical Designer, in partnership with Design, Product development and Merchandising, ensures all products are consistent with brand standards and seasonal design concepts. The Senior Technical Designer leverages skills in garment grading/specifications, fit and construction, fabrics, sewing operations, and pattern making to fulfill these objectives. The Senior Technical Designer brings their extensive knowledge of swim and swim material to ensure quality and fit are superior. Leadership skills are also key, as this experienced team member will be expected to make decisions on global products with cross-functional partners.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop technical specifications including measurement specs, grading and construction details
- Update tech packs after each fitting illustrating corrections and style comments using PLM, Excel, Illustrator and Photoshop
- Review factory patterns for shape, balance and measurements
- Update patterns to reflect fit corrections
- Create Grading Schematics/Maps for owned categories
- Lead fit session on live model or dress form
- Effectively communicate design's fit intent to vendors for bulk production while maintaining corporate standards
- Ensure size and fit consistency within product categories
- Create library of block patterns to maintain fit consistency within product categories
- Collaborate with business partners to gain clear direction and consensus of fit intent
- Foster an open communication and team environment with all business partners
- Support research and documentation of fit, sizing and construction at the style/category level for competitive deep-dive fittings.
- Researching direct competitors and aspirational brands
- Lead robust fittings and swim wear tests at pool; this includes frequent visits to local pools in area with cross-functional team
- Track and manage workflow and workload for own product; gather information and update all reports necessary for meeting.
- Daily Maintenance of Department’s shared Fit Tracker
- Be the voice to help guide and influence change for better working processes
- Participate in global discussions as it pertains to fit, construction and sizing standards
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, technologies, sustainability practices, and tools.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- 7-10 years' experience in the Apparel Industry including patternmaking and construction experience with full knowledge of total production timeline.
- AA or Certification in Apparel Manufacturing, Design, Patternmaking or equivalent
- Strong background working in swim with general knowledge in apparel
- Expertise in fit, pattern making and construction.
- Proven track record of growing businesses, identifying trends and delivering results
- Working knowledge of grading and manufacturing methods
- Strong computer skills - PLM, Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite
- Must be able to work on Gerber or Lectra pattern systems
- 3D style creation a plus
- Thrives in a fast‑paced, team‑first, high‑energy environment, with a positive, can‑do, customer‑focused attitude.
Salary : $110,000 - $120,000
