And are you looking to work closely with a team of dedicated professionals? Join our Basic Needs Program in Burlington in the Supported Housing Program as a Youth Coach. All Spectrum staff, including Youth Coaches, are expected to participate in regular and ongoing supervision and training to best serve the youth we work with.


This is a part-time, evening with weekends required, nonexempt position; which pays $21.63 per hour plus a $2.00 shift differential. 


In this role, you are an important part of the Spectrum community! Youth Coaches are the people working every day to support the young adults accessing our shelters. Youth Coaches help Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) ages 16-23 access basic needs, gain stability, learn independent life skills, take steps to heal from trauma, accomplish their goals, and build meaningful community.


Essential Functions


 



  • Maintain the Shelters as a safe, clean, and accessible space for Transitional Aged Youth (TAY), age 16-23.

  • Support and encourage residents in learning independent life skills and achieving the goals outlined in their service plans.

  • Provide basic needs including hygiene supplies, meals, clothing, and community to youth who live in our shelters.

  • Provide supportive engagement, brief interventions, and crisis intervention techniques based on Spectrum provided trainings.

  • Provide resource coordination and referrals to other Spectrum and community services as appropriate in collaboration with the Housing Case Manager.

  • Assist with designing and implementing positive youth activities, field trips, and groups.

  • Advocate for and with youth within Spectrum, their personal relationships, and the community to make positive change.

  • Other Duties:

    • Administer resident medication

    • Assist in the training and mentoring of new Youth Coaches, Interns, and AmeriCorps members. Perform formal intake process with each new youth to the space.

    • Upkeep timely and accurate records in our electronic health record system including interactions with youth and other grant deliverables.

    • Communicate professionally via email, text, and in person with coworkers and supervisor. 

    • Participate in a culture of collaboration, consultation and ongoing learning by attending regular meetings with colleagues, supervisors, trainers, and community partners.

    • Assist with designing program policies and updates as needed and adhere to the procedures and policies of the agency and of the program.

    • Utilize On-Call and biweekly supervision.

    • Other duties as assigned.



 


Knowledge and Skills Required


 



  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must be knowledgeable about issues facing target population (Transitional Aged Youth, homelessness, substance abuse, mental health problems, family conflict, physical health issues, criminality, disability, marginalized identities etc.) and be willing to learn.

  • Must be knowledgeable or willing to learn about life skills work including meal preparation, budgeting, cleaning, personal hygiene, and job readiness/employment skills and be able to dispense that information as needed to youth in our program.

  • Ability to build relationships quickly and across time with diverse populations and large groups of people.

  • The ability to work independently and as a team member and according to the NASW code of Ethics.

  • Participating in supervision and being able to offer, accept, and utilize feedback.

  • Commitment to the values of diversity with respect to gender identity, race, age, socio-economic level, sexual orientation, and religion.

  • This position may include driving the Spectrum van and/or transporting clients. A driver’s license is preferred but not required.






Work Environment


The above duties will be carried out in the Supported Housing Youth Shelters and occasionally transporting clients in the local area. Requires sitting, standing, general use of stairs, and lifting or moving up to 20 pounds.
