What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Machinist position at Spectrum Semiconductor Tech?
ABOUT US
We are a small, specialized company supporting the semiconductor manufacturing industry through consumable and aftermarket parts manufacturing, and custom part modification. We are a lean, close-knit team where quality is non-negotiable and every person's contribution matters.
We are seeking an experienced machinist to take full ownership of our machine shop — a role held for 26 years by a craftsman who recently retired.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
THIS IS NOT A PRODUCTION JOB
If you are accustomed to loading stock, pushing a button, and waiting for parts to drop — this is not the role for you.
This is a job shop. You may machine one part or six. You may never see that part again, or it may come back in three months with a revision or in a different material. Every day is different. You will be expected to read the print, determine the approach, set up the machine, and make it happen — without someone looking over your shoulder.
We are looking for a machinist who takes pride in the craft, can improvise when needed, and brings the kind of experience that no amount of button-pushing can replace.

THE EQUIPMENT
- Nardini Mascote MS1400S Engine Lathe with DRO — a proven, capable manual lathe for turning, threading, boring, and facing with precision and control
- Bridgeport Series 1 Vertical Mill with Acu-Rite DRO Controller — the gold standard of manual milling, familiar to any machinist worth their salt
- Bridgeport EZ-Trak DX — conversational CNC capability on a familiar Bridgeport platform, bridging manual skill and CNC versatility
- Kira VCT-30A Vertical Machining Center with Fanuc Controller — a rigid, reliable VMC for CNC milling operations
- CMM (currently being updated) — coordinate measuring capability for quality inspection

MATERIALS YOU WILL WORK WITH
- Metals: Stainless steel, titanium, copper, aluminum
- Specialty: Graphite
- Engineering plastics: PEEK, Teflon (PTFE), Delrin

- Set up and operate manual lathes, manual mills, and CNC equipment independently
- Program CNC toolpaths using Mastercam (other CAD/CAM experience considered)
- Operate the Fanuc controller on the Kira VMC
- Hold tolerances up to 0.001" consistently across varied materials
- Interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to determine machining operations, fixturing, tooling selection, speeds, and feeds — without being handed a setup sheet
- Use precision measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, bore gauges, thread gauges, and plug gauges
- Perform first article inspections
- Utilize power tools for cutting, grinding, and shaping as needed
- Maintain equipment and keep the shop organized, clean, and safe
