Duties And Responsibilities
- Extrusion Technician is responsible for, but not limited to starting extrusion lines. An Extrusion Technician will possess the skills of a Set up Technician and of a Level 3 Line Operator. This position will require an individual to have a combination of advanced technical experience, interpersonal skills and have the ability to solve practical problems. An Extrusion Technician more specifically is responsible for the following duties:
- Read and understand all the production paperwork.
- Work independently on assigned projects.
- Work in and around extruders, hoppers, loaders and all other pertinent equipment.
- Assemble and disassemble extrusion lines in accordance with the Scandia Plastics Extrusion Training Manual and the Production Set up Sheet.
- Will start extrusion lines and get the product within the customer’s specification.
- Be aware of the need for production efficiency and output levels of the shift and takes initiative to suggest or to make process or equipment changes when necessary.
- Ensure that the product specifications match the print.
- Understand how to use the Material Inventory and is proficient with material mixing.
- Ensure operation of equipment by evaluation and recommending repairs to the Production Supervisor and to maintenance by the means of using a repair tag.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area.
- Perform all duties in a safe manor.
- Maintain compliance with the Company policies, procedures and safety programs.
- Work with all employees to accomplish goals, as required.
- May be required to serve as a Production Supervisor whenever the current Production Supervisor and/or Assistant Supervisor are not available.
- Effectively communicate with fellow employees, including employees from other shifts.
- Perform other such tasks as requested by management.
Position Requirements:
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Have a working knowledge and be able to perform production functions that include: extrusion line operation, extruder set up, starting extrusion jobs and quality control when necessary.
- Ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment, which can be subjected to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity.
- Possess skills with Q.C. instrumentation and reading prints.
- Possess mechanical ability.
- Understand and perform written and oral instruction.
- Must have basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 55 lbs. as needed.
- Must have good hand eye coordination and physically be able to keep up with the work load.
- Perform periods of standing, bending, carrying, stooping and moving within the production area for complete shifts.
- Specific vision abilities required by the position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
