Vice President of Aging and Disability Services

Spectrum Generations
Augusta, ME Full Time
POSTED ON 10/3/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/22/2027

Leadership Opportunity

Spectrum Generations is seeking a high-energy, emerging executive to lead one of Maine's largest and most respected aging and disability service organizations.

This is not a maintenance position.

We are looking for someone who is intellectually curious, driven to learn, and excited by the challenge of leading complex programs serving older adults, people with disabilities, caregivers, and communities across Central Maine. The successful candidate will join the executive leadership team and oversee the delivery of federally funded Older Americans Act programs, Medicare counseling and advocacy services, nutrition programs, community-based supports, volunteer initiatives, and wellness services reaching thousands of individuals each year.

If you're looking for a position where you can make a lasting impact, build systems, lead talented people, and grow into a larger nonprofit leadership role, we want to hear from you.

About Spectrum Generations

Spectrum Generations is the Area Agency on Aging serving six counties in Central Maine and the Brunswick/Harpswell region. Through a network of community centers, home-based services, virtual programming, volunteer programs, and strategic partnerships, we help older adults and people with disabilities remain healthy, connected, independent, and engaged.

We are a mission-driven organization, but we are also operationally sophisticated, data-focused, and committed to measurable results.

What You'll Do

As Vice President, you will lead multiple directors, managers, and service teams while overseeing a portfolio of programs funded through federal, state, and local resources.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing executive-level leadership and direction to Older Americans Act and Medicare-related programs.
  • Building and mentoring high-performing teams.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements.
  • Using data and performance metrics to improve outcomes and guide decision-making.
  • Developing, managing, and monitoring multi-million dollar program budgets.
  • Identifying opportunities for innovation, growth, and operational improvement.
  • Collaborating with community partners, government agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Helping shape the future direction of services for older adults and people with disabilities in Maine.

Who Will Thrive Here

The strongest candidates are not necessarily those who have spent their entire careers in aging services.

They are people who:

  • Enjoy solving difficult organizational challenges.
  • Ask thoughtful questions and seek to understand how systems work.
  • Can balance mission, compliance, operations, and financial realities.
  • Lead with humility while holding themselves and others accountable.
  • Are comfortable making decisions with imperfect information.
  • See change as an opportunity rather than a threat.
  • Bring energy, initiative, and a strong work ethic.
  • Are motivated by serving consumers and communities rather than personal recognition.

This role requires both strategic thinking and operational execution. One hour you may be discussing federal performance measures and budget variances, and the next you may be helping design a new service delivery model or coaching a manager through a personnel challenge.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, Gerontology, or a related field.
  • Leadership experience managing professional staff and multiple programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to use financial, operational, and performance data to drive decisions.
  • Experience working within regulated environments with accountability for compliance and reporting.
  • Proven record of continuous learning, professional growth, and adaptability.

Equivalent combinations of education, leadership experience, and demonstrated capability will be considered.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: $95,000-$100,000 annually
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Executive leadership team membership
  • Opportunity to shape the future of aging and disability services in Maine
  • 12 Paid Holidays
  • Dental Insurance
  • Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement
  • Life Insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • 401k (Employer match after eligibility is met)
  • FSA
  • HSA
  • Employer Paid Disability Insurance
  • Tuition Reimbursement
