About the Role
The Ophthalmic Technician participates in the care of patients in a clinic setting. In this role, you will greet patients, explain what to expect during their appointment, and assist physicians by performing diagnostic ophthalmic tests and procedures. You’ll also help maintain accurate patient records and ensure a clean, safe clinical environment.
Schedule Full-Time Onsite | Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m Travel to locations is required.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, explaining the visit process and any delays.
- Accurately gather and enter patient information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Document chief complaints, present illness, and medical history.
- Perform ophthalmic tests including visual acuity, tonometry, lensometry, and other diagnostics.
- Apply eye drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes as directed.
- Assist physicians with minor surgical procedures, intraocular injections, and laser treatments.
- Educate patients on medications and pre-/post-operative instructions.
- Scribe for physicians as needed.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA standards.
- Use problem-solving skills to de-escalate dissatisfied patients respectfully and efficiently.
- Demonstrate knowledge of eye anatomy, ocular diseases, and medications.
- Stay up to date with new ophthalmic technologies and treatments.
- Support team members and participate in special projects as needed.
What You Know
Required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a motor vehicle
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
Preferred:
- One (1) or more years of experience in a medical practice
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)
- Experience with EMR systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology
