POSITION DETAILS
Spectrix Analytical Services, LLC is seeking a purification‑focused chemist to support drug discovery programs through the isolation, purification, and analysis of small‑molecule compounds. This is a full‑time, on‑site position located in San Diego, CA. The successful candidate will routinely purify drug discovery intermediates ranging from several hundred milligrams to several hundred grams using normal‑phase and reverse‑phase chromatography. The role is highly hands‑on and operates in a fast‑paced, customer‑driven environment with strict turnaround expectations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Purify small‑molecule drug discovery compounds using normal‑phase and reverse‑phase chromatography
- Operate and maintain preparative chromatography systems (e.g., Teledyne Torrent, NextGen, Accqprep or similar)
- Analyze purified compounds using TLC, LCMS, NMR, and mass spectrometry
- Interpret LCMS and MS data to assess purity and identity
- Accurately document, report, and communicate results to internal customers
- Adhere to aggressive timelines while maintaining data quality and safety standards
- Safely handle solvents and materials, including lifting containers up to 50 lbs as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MS or BS in Chemistry or a related physical science
- Strong understanding of purification and isolation of organic compounds
- Hands‑on experience with chromatographic techniques
- Strong instrument operation skills and computer proficiency
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented, service‑focused environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or drug discovery industry
- Experience with preparative chromatography platforms (Teledyne experience a plus)
- Familiarity with high‑throughput or production‑style purification workflows
