Protein Science- Expression Job description

Spectrix Analytical Services, LLC is searching for a candidate for a full-time permanent Associate Scientist to support a protein science team for a large pharmaceutical client in Spring House, PA. We seek an individual with interest in recombinant protein expression and characterization who can excel in a highly collaborative fast paced environment where most of the time will be spent in hands-on laboratory work. This position presents the opportunity to cross-train and support other areas, including but not limited to assay execution and automation, high throughput mass spectrometry, and compound logistics.

Job Responsibilities

• Produce quality protein using standard techniques and equipment (for example westerns, SDS-PAGE, affinity, ion exchange, SEC with AKTA equipment)
• Conducts fermentation-scale protein expression in mammalian, insect, and microbial systems
• Accountable for the maintenance of cell lines with excellent growth properties for optimal expression
• Prepares recombinant baculovirus stocks and bacterial strains following established protocols
• Assesses protein expression by analytical methodologies
• Performs small-scale microbial fermentation experiments to optimize protein expression

Qualifications

A minimum of B.S. degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent science major is required with 2-5 years of related experience is desired

• Proficient in sterile cell culture techniques
• Familiarity with heterologous protein expression in mammalian, insect, and microbial cell systems
• Experienced with protein detection methodologies including Western blot analysis
• Prior experience working in a discovery research laboratory setting preferred
• Detail-oriented with outstanding organizational skills
• Excellent communication and teamworking skills
• Maintains accurate records of experimental results and interpretations
• Learning agility with proven critical thinking skills

· Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
