Title: Senior Systems Programmer
Duration: 12 Months
Location: Columbia, SC 29219 | Partial Onsite – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Onsite and as needed. (Highly Preferred) //Manager will look at 100% remote candidates. Approvals will need to be granted if an offer is made.
Standard Hours: 8-4:30pm EST / Monday - Friday. Overtime, on call, weekends, and off hours as needed once fully trained
C2 eligibility is required
Job Details:
- Required Education:Bachelor's degree Computer Science, Information Systems, or other job related field or 4 years of job related work experience or 2 years of job related experience plus an associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other job related degree.
- Required Work Experience:6 Years IT work experience including varied systems programming experience
- Required Technologies:JCL - Required
- Mainframe/host experience - required
- IBM z/OS
- MQ mainframe – required
- Experience creating/maintaining a queue manager and queues – required - this requirement is VERY important
- Nice To Have:CICS – desired
- IBM Websphere MQ – desired (Currently working with MQ version 9.3)
- Cobol – desired
- Unix & zlinux - nice to have
- Day to Day:Resolving test and production issues that arise
- Working on customer requests such as creating a new queues, queue manager & changing queue depth
- Working on a multitude of projects ranging from installing the latest release of MQ to configuring MQ on servers
- Working with error reports and handling multiple tasks at the same time
- Internal monitoring such as checking queue depth
NOT Looking For: Not looking for someone who knows how MQ works from a user standpoint, or knows that they send a record and it goes to MQ.
- Duties:Write or debug programs to maintain and control computer systems software, such as operating systems, networked systems, and database systems. Provide technical and disaster recovery expertise for systems software.
- 40% Diagnose, isolate, and debug software problems and perform problem resolution. Identify issues that the vendor is responsible for and refer those issues appropriately.
- 35% Coordinate installation, testing, and maintenance of systems software. Schedule system downtime in a way that minimizes user impact.
- 10% Review customer requests, security patches, and audit requirements for additions or changes to systems, and evaluate feasibility to determine if/how to handle the request while maintaining an adequate/appropriate overall systems infrastructure. To determine if requested changes are possible, review system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations.
- 10% Cross train in all areas of systems programming in order to efficiently perform on-call rotation.
- 5% Provide technical and disaster recovery support for systems software. null
- Skills: Required Skills and Abilities: Strong analytical and logical thinking skills.
- Strong understanding of systems programming, graphical user interfaces, control languages, development, quality assurance, and implementation strategies of systems software.
- Thorough understanding of currently utilized systems programming productivity tools and their use. Ability to review and analyze systems software and recommend performance solutions. Required Software and
