The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, tracking, and reporting manufacturing costs to support accurate financial reporting and informed operational decision-making. Position partners closely with plant leadership, operations, supply chain, and finance to maintain standard costs, monitor inventory, investigate variances, support month-end close, participate in annual budgeting and forecasting and identify opportunities to improve profitability and cost control.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and periodically update standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead in the ERP system.
- Analyze material, labor, overhead, purchase price, and production variances and provide clear explanations to management.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities related to inventory, cost of goods sold, and manufacturing accounts.
- Monitor work-in-process, raw materials, and finished goods valuation and obsolescence reserve to ensure accuracy.
- Participate in and support physical inventory counts and cycle count programs, including reconciliation and reporting.
- Prepare periodic reports for plant and financial needs on costs, margins and productivity.
- Partner with operations, engineering, procurement, and supply chain to review cost drivers and improve costing accuracy.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting for manufacturing costs, inventory, and plant labor and overhead costs.
- Design inventory production process flow and partner with IT Department to integrate production flow accurately into our ERP System.
- Identify and recommend process improvements to strengthen cost controls, reporting quality, and operational efficiency.
- Participate in the process of new product costing at both the engineering and manufacturing levels including the development of applicable bills of materials.
- Provide additional non-manufacturing cost accounting financial support for critical areas such as freight, warehousing and tariffs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 2–5 years of cost accounting in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, including work-in-process, overhead allocation, physical inventory, cycle counts, BOMs, routings and production reporting
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems. Knowledge of Acumatica and/or Netstock a plus.
- Knowledge of GAAP and internal control requirements
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- CMA or CPA is a plus
Salary : $81,000 - $84,000
