What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle & High School Tutor - Math Academic Coach position at Specialty Tutoring?

Provide 1:1 homework help, test prep, and study skills to middle & high school students (grades 6th– 12th) in Algebra (pre, I & II), Geometry, and science courses that rely on math and problem-solving skills. Training is provided in executive function skills that play a strong role in a young adult’s academic success and independence.

As an Academic Coach, you will:
· Complete surveys with parents and students to determine student objectives
· Use your experience in specific math & science subject areas to instruct and review concepts and effectively study for tests
· Utilize students’ online textbook and digital course materials via common platforms and devices used in today’s classrooms
· Guide and motivate students to set goals, monitor their own performance, use time efficiently, organize school-related work, and take a strategic approach to school
· Communicate with parents to foster a team approach to each student’s success
· Keep organized records for each student
This position is:
· Part-time – 2 afterschool/evenings a week (6 tutoring hours planning). Services will take place offsite at our partner location – Boys & Girls Club of Ft. Wayne.
· Professional – Previous experience with middle or high school students required. Degree preferred.
· Long-term – Due to the amount of experience gained with each student & the time invested in training, we seek candidates who are willing to commit to a minimum of 2 years employment. We do not hire for temporary or summer-only work.
· Mostly School-year Based – Since the focus is on homework help and test prep, sessions take place mostly during the school year with the potential for summer opportunities.

Specialty Tutoring is a nonprofit learning center serving Fort Wayne since 1999. Thanks to amazing community support, we are expanding our services to reach more kids both onsite at our new, larger learning center and at local partnering agencies.
We are accepting resumes now for training during September of 2026 and tutoring to start in October.
