Chemist

Specialty Tires of America is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Chemist to join our innovative research and development team at our Indiana, PA location. This role involves both laboratory and production-floor work, requiring strong technical expertise and problem-solving skills. In this role, you will be contributing to the development and quality assurance of our products. The Chemist will be responsible for the formulation, testing, and improvement of rubber compounds to meet product performance, cost, and quality objectives. Your expertise will drive advancements in our manufacturing processes, ensuring our offerings meet the highest standards of quality and compliance. Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize rubber compound formulations for various applications
• Conduct physical, chemical, and rheological testing on raw materials and finished products
• Analyze data to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and recommend process improvements
• Operate and calibrate laboratory instrumentation including spectrophotometers, gas chromatographs, HPLC systems, and spectrometers for precise measurements
• Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods for various chemical and biochemical samples
• Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to ensure consistent product performance
• Support research projects aimed at innovating new products or improving existing formulations through rigorous scientific investigation
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to troubleshoot production issues related to chemical processes or product quality
• Maintain accurate documentation of formulations, test results, and experimental data
• Contribute to regulatory documentation and audits by providing detailed reports on experimental procedures and findings
• Evaluate new raw materials, additives, and processing techniques to enhance product quality and efficiency

Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field
• Strong background in research methodologies including experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting complex chemical systems
• Experience supporting product development cycles from initial formulation through scale-up processes
• Hands-on experience with spectrophotometers, chromatography systems (gas chromatography and HPLC), spectroscopy techniques, and other analytical instruments
• Knowledge of rubber chemistry, vulcanization processes, and testing methods (e.g., Mooney viscosity, tensile strength, hardness)
• Familiarity with GLP, CGMP, ISO 9001 standards, and laboratory safety protocols
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced industrial environment while maintaining meticulous attention to detail

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
