What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prepress Technician position at Specialty Printing, LLC?
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The pre-press technician will, per scheduling and job ticket requirements, pull the job bag, make plates, mount plates, pull and or mix inks, select appropriate dies, make labels and consolidate onto a staging shelf. When required jobs will be taken from the staging shelf and placed on the staging cart s ensuring all tooling, spindles, inks and supplies are staged on the cart, if not already at the press. The carts are then delivered to manufacturing parking space.
Essential Functions:
Work includes most of the following:
- Satisfy all scheduling and job ticket requirements applicable to the pre-press area.
- Maintain job bag storage and use.
- Manufacture printing plates and properly maintain all equipment, including recycling activities, and material control.
- Ensure that back up plates are present for all jobs.
- Properly mount plates as needed. Proper cylinder markings (gains – A, B, and C)
- Inspect dies from vendor and maintain die inventory
- Mix and issue inks as required
- Print required box labels per schedule/job ticket requirements
- Consolidate manufacturing required job bag / ticket, plates, dies, inks, and labels onto staging shelf or delivery cart.
- Deliver cart to assigned press parking spot.
- Comply with all 5s requirements
- Comply with all safety requirements.
- Cycle count dies and inks as required by coordinator.
- Follow standard work practices.
- Complete other tasks assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Must have high school diploma, GED, or technical school certification.
- Experience within the printing manufacturing or graphics industry desired.
- Good math skills
- Good communication skills (written, oral, computer)
- Computer literate able to learn to use various software packages
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good organizational skills including the ability to multi task and be cross trained in various disciplines.
- Good mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn how to operate department equipment.
