Circulator
POSITION: RN Circulator / Operating Room Nurse
REPORTS TO: Nurse Manager
APPROVED BY: Governing Body
OVERVIEW
The Circulator/Operating Room Nurse is responsible for the provision of safe care of the patients in the operating room. The nurse is accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all components of care delivered to patients within the perioperative environment.
REQUIREMENTS
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current and active unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of Georgia
Current surgical experience (within past 3 years), ASC experience preferred
Current BLS Certification, current ACLS certification as appropriate
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but not limited to):
Provides patient care in a competent and ethical manner in support of the facility’s operations
Follows and completes assignments as given by the Nurse Manager
Liaison between the patient, family and team to adequately plan and support patient care
Collaborates with the facility team in developing coordinated outcomes and interventions
Circulates assigned surgical procedures for surgeons and specialties in the facility effectively and safely
Supports and maintains a safe patient care environment
Ensures that the Operating Rooms are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner
Prepares surgery suite for surgical procedures appropriately and effectively
Follows established universal precautions in the use of PPE
Individualizes patient care according to patient’s health status and surgery/procedure being performed
Assists with patient positioning and transport appropriately
Always maintains patient privacy and confidentiality
Maintains patient’s established facility rights
Carries out physician orders
Operates equipment and performs technical skills according to policies and standards
Recognizes situations and assessment findings that require communication and follows through as appropriate
Records care correctly and accurately in the patient’s medical record
Interacts with team members regarding patient care as appropriate
Serves as a clinical liaison
Supervises non-licensed personnel as assigned
Monitors surgery inventory and notifies appropriate individual(s) when supplies are needed
Maintains and restocks supplies in surgery suite
Participates in identifying and developing the performance improvement focus and criteria
Supports the mission, vision, and core values of the organization
Observes facility policies, procedures, and processes
Demonstrates professional accountability
Assumes accountability and responsibility for attendance and timely completion of competencies and education
Handles difficult situations and maintains a positive attitude
Strong organizational and time management skills
Embraces change and able to handle multiple demands at one time
