What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - Pain Procedures Assistant position at Specialty Medical Office?
Certified Medical Assistant
Job Summary
We are looking for a versatile and dedicated Certified Medical Assistant with hands-on experience assisting with pain management procedures to support our clinical and administrative operations. This is a dual-impact role where you will be essential to both patient care in the exam room and the smooth flow of our front office. On the clinical side, you will play a key part in our pain procedures — including procedure set-up, patient positioning and support, room turnover and clean-up, and the proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments and tools. This position requires a candidate who lives locally in the Falls Church area and is able to travel between our four clinics (Lorton, Alexandria, and Old Town).
Clinical Responsibilities
- Pain Procedure Support: Assist with pain management procedures from start to finish — preparing the procedure room and setting up instruments and supplies, positioning and supporting patients during the procedure, and handling room turnover, clean-up, and the cleaning and sterilization of tools and equipment between patients.
- Patient Intake: Prepare patients for examinations, assist with procedures, and accurately record vital signs.
- History & Documentation: Obtain detailed medical and family histories; update and maintain patient records within our EMR system.
- Physician Support: Assist physicians during examinations and procedures as needed.
- Prescription Management: Coordinate prescription refills with pharmacies via electronic, phone, or written methods.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Patient Experience: Greet patients, manage check-in/check-out, and answer incoming calls with a focus on excellent customer service.
- Scheduling: Coordinate and accurately schedule patient appointments.
- Financials: Collect co-pays, co-insurance, and outstanding balances at the time of service.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Certification: Must be a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) with active credentials.
- Experience: Proven experience in a medical office setting is required. Experience assisting with pain management procedures — including set-up, clean-up, and instrument sterilization — is strongly preferred.
- Location & Travel: Must live locally in the Falls Church area and have reliable transportation to travel between our Lorton, Alexandria, and Old Town offices.
- Skills: Strong customer service, ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, knowledge of aseptic technique and sterilization protocols, and proficiency with EMR systems.
