What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Technician/ASC support staff position at Specialty Eyecare Centre?
Specialty Eyecare Centre, the office of Dr. Howard Barnebey and Dr. Collin Rozanski, are looking for a dedicated Ophthalmic Technician to join our team! This opening is a unique opportunity to work in our ASC and Clinic. The position is #4- 10 hour shifts. The schedule will be 3 days clinic and 1 day ASC.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing patients for eye exams, including obtaining medical histories, measuring visual acuity, and performing preliminary diagnostic tests such as tonometry, visual field testing, and retinal imaging.
- Operate and maintain ophthalmic equipment such as autorefractors, slit lamps, and fundus cameras.
- Support the ophthalmologist by documenting exam results, charting patient information, and providing accurate reports.
- Educate patients about pre and post-operative care, as well as general eye health.
- Ensure patient comfort and provide a friendly, professional environment.
- Sterilize instruments and maintain cleanliness of exam rooms.
- ASC duties: Circulating and Instrument reprocessing
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate's degree, Medical Assistant Certification or certification in ophthalmic technology preferred.
- Previous experience as an ophthalmic technician or in a similar medical role is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle medical equipment with care.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and computer systems.
