Responsibilities
- Contact patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers to follow up on unpaid or underpaid medical claims and balances
- Review and analyze medical bills, insurance denials, and payment discrepancies using billing software and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems
- Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility using health insurance knowledge to facilitate accurate billing
- Ensure compliance with coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), and ICD coding for proper claim submission
- Resubmit corrected claims or appeals as needed to expedite payment processing
- Maintain detailed records of collection activities, communications, and account statuses in medical records and billing software
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify billing details or resolve discrepancies promptly
Skills
- Strong knowledge of healthcare claims management, including familiarity with medical coding systems such as CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG, and ICD coding
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) and experience with billing software and EMR/EHR systems
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients and insurance representatives
- In-depth understanding of health insurance policies, benefits verification, and medical billing procedures
- Ability to interpret medical terminology accurately and review medical records for billing accuracy
- Experience in medical collection processes with a focus on reducing outstanding balances efficiently
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple accounts while maintaining attention to detail
