Job Summary:
The Chemotherapy Nurse is responsible for providing compassionate care and support to patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment. This role involves administering chemotherapy drugs, monitoring patients for side effects, educating patients and their families about the treatment process, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer Chemotherapy:
- Prepare and administer chemotherapy drugs as prescribed by oncologists.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions during and after chemotherapy administration.
- Follow strict safety protocols to handle and dispose of chemotherapy drugs.
- Patient Care:
- Conduct pre-treatment assessments, including reviewing patient medical histories and current health status.
- Monitor and document patients' vital signs and response to treatment.
- Provide post-treatment care and instructions to patients and caregivers.
- Patient Education:
- Educate patients and their families about chemotherapy, potential side effects, and self-care strategies.
- Provide emotional support and address any concerns or questions patients and families may have.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with oncologists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment outcomes.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and any adverse reactions.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and organizational documentation standards.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current with advances in oncology nursing and chemotherapy treatment.
- Participate in ongoing education and training programs.
- Maintain required certifications and licenses.
- Quality and Safety:
- Adhere to all infection control and safety protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) considered.
- Current, valid RN license in the state of practice.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in oncology or a related field.
- Previous experience administering chemotherapy is highly desirable.
- Certifications:
- Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of chemotherapy protocols and procedures.

Working Conditions:
