Position Summary
The Inclusive Aquatic Program Coordinator supports the development, delivery, and expansion of adaptive and inclusive aquatic programs for swimmers with disabilities, neurodivergent learners, and individuals with sensory, motor, or developmental differences. The Coordinator also assists with female‑only aquatic programming, ensuring privacy‑centered, culturally responsive, and comfort‑focused instruction for women and girls and assists with new program development of our Community outreach programs.
This role blends direct instruction with program creation, family communication, and staff support. Coordinators ensure every swimmer receives individualized, ability‑centered instruction rooted in safety, therapeutic principles, and the mission of Specialty Aquatic Program. This position plays a key role in strengthening community partnerships, expanding access, and maintaining high program standards across both adaptive and female‑only offerings.
Work Schedule
Approximately 10 hours per week to start; additional hours available as programs grow
No holidays or holiday weekends
Seasonal programming and community special events as scheduled
May include shared supervision with another Coordinator or Program Manager
Required Experience
Swim lesson instruction or coaching experience
Strong swimming background (lifeguard certification, competitive swimming, coaching, or formal aquatic training)
Experience working with disabled individuals, neurodivergent learners, or students with sensory or developmental differences
Experience supporting or teaching female‑only or privacy‑sensitive programming preferred
Ability to swim 25 yards without stopping
Ability to work in the pool for up to 4 hours at a time
Ability to routinely lift 20 lbs
Strong communication, organization, and customer‑service skills
Experience developing lesson plans, programs, or curriculum preferred
Education Requirements
Must be a professional in a field related to adaptive instruction or disability support, such as:
Occupational therapy
Physical therapy
Recreational therapy
Special education
Behavioral or developmental sciences
Speech‑language pathology
Allied health fields
Required Certifications & Training
Current Lifeguard Certification (or willingness to obtain within 60 days; training available)
Starfish Aquatics Certification (completed within 60 days of employment)
Strong understanding of adaptive teaching strategies and disability‑affirming practices
Eligible to complete Swim Angelfish Adaptive Instructor Certification
Training in program development, safety protocols, and emergency response
Familiarity with culturally responsive practices for female‑only programming
Core Responsibilities
Adaptive & Inclusive Aquatics
Conduct swim assessments and develop individualized adaptive swim plans
Teach inclusive and adaptive swim lessons for private, group, and specialty programs
Design, develop, and implement new aquatic programs for disabled swimmers and diverse learners
Mentor instructors and assist with training in adaptive and inclusive techniques
Oversee accurate program tracking, reporting, and completion of progress notes

Support and female‑only aquatic programming, including:

She Swims Jr
She Swims Adult
She Strong AquaHIIT
Ensure privacy, comfort, and cultural responsiveness for women and girls
Assist with staffing, scheduling, and curriculum development for female‑only offerings
Maintain secure pool environments during female‑only sessions
Community Outreach & Program Growth
Lead outreach efforts with schools, therapy centers, nonprofits, and partner organizations
Represent the program at community events and inclusion‑focused initiatives
Collaborate with leadership to expand scholarship access and inclusive programming
Safety & Operations
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized pool environment
Follow and execute the Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
Assist with tours, answering questions, and general program operations
