We are seeking an experienced Commercial Plumbing Estimator to join a growing commercial plumbing contractor located in Durham serving the Triangle market (Raleigh, Durham, Cary, and surrounding areas). The role is a direct hire opportunity (not temporary/contract).
This role is central to the continued expansion of their commercial department and reports to commercial leadership while working closely with project managers.
You will produce accurate, well-documented takeoffs and estimates that support confident bid decisions and set project teams up for profitable execution. What You Will Do
- Perform complete takeoffs from plans and specifications for commercial plumbing projects (underground, above-ground, fixtures, gas, medical gas, and lab systems)
- Build detailed estimates covering labor, material, equipment, subcontractors, and permits
- Solicit, receive, and level vendor and subcontractor quotes
- Prepare clear, well-documented estimates to support leadership’s bid/no-bid decisions
- Manage the bid calendar and consistently meet every deadline
- Hand off awarded projects to project managers with full scope, budget, and buyout plan
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site walks as needed
- Learn and apply company estimating standards, assemblies, and historical job-cost data
- Review actual job costs against estimates and continuously refine pricing accuracy
What You Bring
Required:
- 3 years of estimating experience in the plumbing trade on commercial projects
- Strong ability to read plans and specifications across underground, above-ground, fixtures, gas, medical gas, and lab systems
- Proficiency with takeoff and estimating software (we use FastPIPE and expect you to work in our system)
- Proven track record of accurate, on-time bids
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through under deadline pressure
- Coachable, collaborative mindset and willingness to adopt established processes
Preferred:
- Prior FastEST/FastPIPE experience
- Plumbing field experience or trade licensure
- Existing vendor and subcontractor relationships in the Triangle market
- Experience with Sage 300 or similar construction accounting systems
- Familiarity with percentage-of-completion job cost reporting
