Principal Engineer – Mechanical/Structural
Location: West Columbia, SC (On-site)
Compensation: $115,000–$140,000 base comprehensive benefits

About the Role
Do you turn complex structural challenges into practical, buildable solutions? As a Principal Engineer, you’ll own design quality and serve as the engineer of record for key deliverables. You’ll lead and contribute across mechanical, structural, civil, and electrical disciplines—using CAD/FEA tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) to convert ideas into drawings and IFC packages that stand up to fabrication and construction realities.
You’ll manage schedules, delegate work to engineers/subcontractors, and collaborate directly with clients—translating field observations into clear recommendations and stamped plans.
What You’ll Do
- Generate, review, and approve IFC drawings and project deliverables
- Provide design oversight and final approval across multi‑disciplinary projects
- Plan work, set timelines, and delegate tasks to internal teams and subs
- Develop structural designs with construction & fabrication feasibility in mind
- Partner with clients to clarify requirements and deliver tailored solutions
Must‑Have Qualifications
- EIT certification required
- PE license preferred (or the ability to obtain quickly)
- Demonstrated structural design experience in industrial or heavy commercial applications
- Proficiency with CAD/FEA tools (SolidWorks or AutoCAD strongly preferred)
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with crane platforms, utility piping & equipment foundations
- Exposure to ASME vessel design and metrology/3D scanning
- Experience with FEL (front‑end loading) scoping for capital projects
