Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on FileMaker Developer to support and enhance our laboratory systems. This role will partner closely with laboratory staff to understand current workflows, identify inefficiencies, and deliver practical, high-impact solutions. You’ll play a key role in stabilizing and improving an existing FileMaker environment while helping transition knowledge from outsourced resources to an internal, sustainable model.
Key Responsibilities
- Shadow laboratory staff to understand day-to-day workflows, workarounds, and pain points
- Diagnose system issues and resolve critical bugs within FileMaker applications
- Optimize and enhance PDF report generation for clarity, accuracy, and performance
- Improve data entry processes to increase efficiency and reduce errors
- Analyze current system functionality and implement improvements aligned with operational needs
- Document system architecture, workflows, and technical dependencies
- Establish and maintain development best practices, coding standards, and documentation protocols
- Lead knowledge transfer efforts from outsourced developers to internal stakeholders
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritize system enhancements and fixes
Qualifications
- 3 years of experience developing in FileMaker (Claris FileMaker platform)
- Strong understanding of relational database design and FileMaker scripting
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
- Experience translating business or operational workflows into technical solutions
- Background improving reporting tools, particularly PDF outputs
- Strong documentation and process-mapping skills
- Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in laboratory, healthcare, or other regulated environments
- Experience transitioning systems from outsourced vendors to in-house teams
- Familiarity with UI/UX best practices for data entry and workflow efficiency
- Exposure to system integrations or APIs
