The School Direct Services Professional provides hands-on support to students, working directly with them to address academic, behavioral, and social-emotional challenges. The professional collaborates with teachers, administrators, and families to implement individualized support strategies that align with each student’s unique needs, including those with special education requirements.
Responsibilities
- Direct Student Support:
- Deliver one-on-one and small group assistance to students, reinforcing academic concepts, behavior strategies, and social skills.
- Implement individualized support plans and interventions (e.g., accommodations outlined in IEPs) to facilitate student success in the classroom.
- Assist students in developing self-regulation, problem-solving, and communication skills to enhance both academic and personal growth.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and school counselors to monitor student progress and adapt support strategies as needed.
- Maintain open communication with parents and guardians, providing updates on student performance and discussing strategies for support at home.
- Participate in regular team meetings, professional development sessions, and training to stay informed about best practices and new intervention techniques.
- Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support:
- Utilize effective behavior management and de-escalation techniques to address challenging situations.
- Help students set and achieve personal and academic goals, supporting them through structured activities and positive reinforcement.
- Document and track student behavior and progress, providing detailed records for team review and adjustment of support plans.
- Administrative & Support Duties:
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, progress, and support services provided.
- Assist in preparing instructional materials and resources tailored to students’ needs.
- Contribute to the development and review of school policies and procedures related to direct student services.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field is preferred.
- Prior experience in an educational setting or direct student support role is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with special education practices, IEP implementation, and behavior management strategies.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and commitment to supporting diverse student needs.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to run short distances and move swiftly in response to student needs, including bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Ability to lift and assist students with mobility challenges, often requiring the handling of up to 50 pounds or more.
- Skill in managing fine motor tasks, such as helping students with writing, manipulating small objects, or using adaptive devices.
- Ability to operate a computer or tablet for up to 8 hours daily.
- Capacity to notice and respond to non-verbal cues from students
- Capacity to remain calm and composed during physically and emotional demanding situations, ensuring student safety and well-being
Salary : $19
