Horizontal Directional Drill Operator

Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating specialized horizontal directional drilling equipment to install underground utilities with precision and efficiency. Your expertise will help ensure safe, accurate, and efficient utility installations across various construction sites. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on impactful projects while maintaining the highest safety standards and operational excellence.

Duties

• · Ability to safely operate HDD drills and locating systems safely & efficiently.

· Trench, Place conduit, pull cable & fiber, and direct bury main-line drops.

· Locate / verify all existing utilities; Pothole all utilities that will be either paralleled or crossed during bore.

· Knowledge of telecommunication construction with general familiarity of HDD Drills operations

· Inspect & maintain job equipment & job sites.

· Ability to use Cable placement equipment & tools to identify & troubleshoot problems.

· Ability to read prints & understand the underground process.

· Must be safety conscientious.

· Ability to clearly communicate, teach & mentor less experienced crew members.

· May be required to work overtime as the workload demands.

· May travel and have temporary projects in other locations, with per diem paid.

Minimum Qualifications:

1-2 years’ relevant experience

Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record

CDL a plus, but not mandatory.

Must be able to pass a supervised drug test, as well as on-going random drug tests.

Must be able to speak English fluently.

Strong work ethic, communication skills & positive attitude

Ability to work safely, with or without supervision in all weather conditions.

Ability to operate equipment, including but now limited to directional drills, locating systems, trencher, backhoe excavators, forklift, etc.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This job operates in field environment.

1. Routinely requires extended periods of climbing, squatting, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting and lifting in awkward position.

2. Working in inclement weather conditions: extreme heat, or cold, rain, and wind.

3. Must be able to bend, lift & carry up to 50 pounds.
