TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Part-Time (2 days a week) 9 months, In-Person

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology
  2. Valid Missouri Certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and/or Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
  3. Experience in the public-school setting preferred
  4. Possess collaborative and interpersonal skills
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of the Speech Language Pathologist is to improve the speech and/or language of students that have been identified as having speech and/or language disabilities that interfere with the students ability to derive full benefit from the overall educational program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The duties of the Speech Language Pathologist will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as a resource to school staff and families in the development of a balanced program for communication and speech-language development.
  • Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual speech/language needs.
  • Assist and guide teachers/parent in observing, describing and referring suspected and/or identified speech-language problems.
  • Provide thorough assessment and diagnosis of articulation, voice, fluency and language.
  • Provide screening to specified grade levels at regular intervals to identify speech and/or language impaired children.
  • Collaborate with school staff and parents to implement therapy strategies for the child’s daily activities.
  • Collaborate with IEP team members, evaluation team members, parents and general educators to provide intervention, services and support across school environments.
  • Provide in-service education and serves as a consultant to school staff on topics concerning speech-language disabilities.
  • Keep through ongoing records for the students receiving speech/language therapy.
  • Maintain lists of students referred, screened and eligible for service as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists and related services.
  • Compile case history data on those students in speech-language therapy and shares the pertinent information with school staff.
  • Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed materials, equipment and supplies.
  • Assimilate all speech-language evaluation information, interprets the evaluation results and writes a cohesive report which discusses all speech-language needs of the student.
  • Maintain required documentation regarding Medicaid billing.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Display the ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the District.
  • Conference with parents and school staff on a regular basis.
  • Models positive behavior for students (i.e. interpersonal communication, processes, social interactions, etc.) for the purpose of providing educational and life skills training.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
  • Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Adhere to good safety practices.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to all District rules, regulations and policies.
  • All other duties as required or assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • stand, walk, sit and talk/hear;
  • occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl;
  • occasionally push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs; and
  • be able to see, including close, distance and depth perception.
