Job Goal(s):
The primary job goals of the GSRP Associate Teacher are to effectively become a member of a GSRP teaching team and to participate in planning and executing all related activities, including conducting and participating in children’s activities. In addition, the associate teacher will support the infrastructure of the classroom by participating fully in record keeping, maintenance of the environment and all other required activities.
Qualifications:
Education:
Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood or Child Development
OR
Child Development Associate (CDA) credential required*
*Note: Consideration may be given to a candidate meeting minimal grant requirements for education. Requires placement on a compliance plan to reach qualification within a defined time frame. Support for some costs may be available through Michigan AEYC T.E.A.C.H. scholarship program.
Work Experience:
Previous work experience in early childhood is preferred
Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred but not required
- Must be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the children and program
- Experience working with persons from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist in the implementation of the daily program under the direction of the lead teacher.
- Participate in planning and preparing the learning environment, lesson plans, setting up interest centers and preparing needed materials and supplies.
- Supervise the classroom in the teacher’s presence and/or absence.
- Assist with general housekeeping and food preparation tasks.
- Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to GSRP.
- Treat all children and their parents with the ultimate respect and dignity.
- Attend all meetings and recommended training programs and professional development.
- Maintain confidentiality about children and their families.
- Supervise and participate in outdoor play.
- Participate in recordkeeping: attendance, meals/snacks, assessments, screens, etc.
- Participate in home visits with lead teacher upon request.
- Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned by lead teacher and/or supervisors.
- Valid driver's license required.
Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
