District School Psychologist/Psychologist Intern
Summary: Evaluates needs of struggling, disabled, and gifted children and plans and carries out programs to enable children to attain maximum achievement and adjustment by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Conducts diagnostic assessments to identify children's needs, limitations, and potentials; observing, studying school records, consulting with parents and school personnel, and administering and interpreting diagnostic findings.
Prepares and submits required reports and maintains case records on referred students.
Carries out research to aid in introduction of programs in schools to meet current psychological, educational, and social needs of children.
Advises teachers and other school personnel on methods to enhance school and classroom atmosphere to provide a motivating educational environment.
Uses effective consultation skills when working with parents, counselors, teachers and administrators to implement intervention strategies with students.
Coordinates with school staff and parents to arrange for special placement or other treatment programs.
Refers individuals to community agencies to secure medical, vocational, or social services for a child or family.
Participates in planning of remedial classes and testing programs designed to meet needs of students.
Counsels students individually and in groups to assist students to achieve personal, social, and emotional adjustment.
Assists with professional development training of school personnel.
Serves as consultant to the director, district committees, superintendent, school board and parent teacher groups in matters involving psychological services within the educational system or school.
Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent. Must hold the proper certification and endoresements as required by the State Board of Education.
Language and Communication Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret psycho-educational assessments of students. Ability to write reports in a clear and understandable manner, conveying accurate interpretation of data collection and test information to create a student profile of strengths and weaknesses. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from school staff , parents and outside agencies.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
1. Must hold the proper certification and endorsements as required by the Nevada State Board of Education.
2. Qualifying License: Special
Qualifying Endorsement: School Psychologist
Salary based upon the certified staff salary schedule with additional contracted days and responsibility factor.
or
1. Must be a qualified school psychology intern candidate with an accredited university or willing to pursue a school psychology program at an accredited university within the next two years.
Preferred: Hold current special education licensure.
