Travel: 25-35% within Ohio
SUMMARY
The Manager of Sports & Competition, South Central Region, is responsible for overseeing, managing, and executing sports and competitions in alignment with Special Olympics Ohio’s (SOOH) mission. This position is responsible for ensuring high quality year-round sports training and competition to the athletes in the South Central Region at a regional level. The Manager of Sports and Competition will support the Regional Director to ensure compliance with state standards all community-based organizations within the South Central Region.
Essential Functions (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.)
- Plan, implement, and evaluate all qualifying events and competitions, as defined by SOOH, within the South Central Region, with oversight from the Regional Director. This will substantiate approximately 30% of your work hours and will have specific goals tied to your performance evaluation.
- Recruit, train, develop, and manage a volunteer committee/event team to assist in all aspects of regional sports training and competition.
- With oversight from the Regional Director, assist in the development of an annual program operating budget for the South Central Region.
- Act as a resource and advisor to our community-based programs with all event planning and implementation throughout the South Central Region.
- Attend and participate in local and regional meetings when appropriate, as directed by the Regional Director, South Central Region.
- In collaboration with local organization leadership, ensure compliance with all necessary coaching requirements, training, and certifications.
- In collaboration with the Manager of Health Strategies and Manager of Unified Champion Schools, assist in facilitating Unified Champion Schools, Health Initiatives, and Special Olympics efforts to attain Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion throughout the South Central Region.
- Participate in SOOH events, meetings, and conferences as requested by the South Central Regional Director.
- Assist the Regional Director will all regional fundraising events as directed.
- Execute and participate in state-level sport events as requested.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Preferred experience with non-profit organizations
- Strong sports background necessary
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office product series and relevant sports database systems
Miscellaneous Information
- Position is full-time, exempt
- Days/hours of work - Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evening/weekend work required as position
demands, at times can be extensive.
- Independent in-state travel required, including independent overnight and weekend travel as an essential function of position
- Required to maintain and provide proof of valid, current state driver’s license and automobile property and casualty insurance at all times.
