DEPARTMENT: Development

LOCATION: The position would have the option of fully working from home or utilizing office

space in the Morrisville or Charlotte offices or a combination of the two in a

hybrid/remote format.

REPORTS TO: Senior Vice President of Development


PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Development Director of Strategic Partnerships works with the Senior VP of

Development to build the funding capacity of Special Olympics North Carolina by working with staff andvolunteers to establish and/or renew relationships with existing and prospective donors.


PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Assist with a sustainable fund development plan that will increase revenue each year to support the

strategic direction of SONC, while also diversifying our donor base both demographically and

geographically.

• Develop and institute methods of evaluation to continuously improve development systems.

• Responsible for timely, accurate and compelling reporting to donors.

• Increase engagement across corporate, foundations, and individual giving channels.

• Leverage both grassroots and traditional fundraising methods to enhance the annual giving program and a portfolio of major individual donors, upgrade existing donor base and lead efforts to research, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new individual supporters.

• Provide education around our mission and advocacy.

• Support grassroots advocacy partners community members to obtain funding.

• Collaborate with the Communications Dept staff to advance awareness and marketing of SONC

development campaigns and increase our prospective donor pool.

• Demonstrated experience with a variety of fundraising strategies including major gifts, special events,

corporate giving, employee giving, online/social media giving, and grants.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across programs, listen to and respect viewpoints of others

and share recognition.

• Ability to develop long term plans, set objectives and track progress across goals.

• Experience managing a donor database, such as Salesforce.

• Experience with peer-to-peer online fundraising platforms.

• Ability to make public presentations about Special Olympics to various constituents.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university and work experience in a related field with a minimum of three years of experience in non-profit management role. Ability to make decisions and work independently while collaborating with organizational leadership is essential. Strong interpersonal skills combined with public speaking skills to make presentations. Strong organizational and time management skills.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Required: Strong analytical, written, and effective verbal communication skills; Ability to

prioritize and meet deadlines; Demonstrate knowledge of technology including

system/software programs used by SONC; Ability to possess/maintain valid NC

driver’s license; Ability to travel and attend work regularly; Represent the

Organization in a professional manner; Attend Special Olympics events as assigned;

Extensive night weekend work and overnight travel as required.

Preferred: Previous experience in the nonprofit sector and/or volunteer management.


SALARY:

Commensurate with experience, benefits package as outlined in the SONC Employee Handbook and annually approved by the SONC board of directors. Salary range is $56,000 to $68,000.
