The volunteer Athlete Leadership Coordinator for Special Olympics oversees local athlete training, skill development, and meaningful role placements. [1]

• Role Type Volunteer leadership, strategic planning, and program advocacy.
• Commitment Long-term commitment involving regular local meetings, mentor check-ins, and event support.
• Goal Empower Special Olympics athletes to serve as speakers, coaches, board members, and committee leaders. [1, 2, 3]
  
  

Core Responsibilities

• Program Management Oversee all local components of the Athlete Leadership initiative within the assigned area.
• Skill Development Support training curricula covering personal development, communication, and governance.
• Role Placement Match trained athlete leaders with meaningful volunteer, coaching, or administrative assignments.
• Advocacy & Inclusion Serve on the local leadership team to promote inclusive environments and ensure athlete voices guide decisions.

• Excellent communication, mentoring, and organizational skills.
