Position : Manager, Sports Training & Competition – Area 6 (Central)

Job Role:
The Manager, Sports Training & Competition is responsible for promoting strategic growth and sustainability by creating quality competition opportunities and ensuring year-round training options exist for athletes and volunteers within the assigned region.
Qualifications:
- BS/BA preferred
- 5 year’s office experience
- Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented
- Good written and communication skills, including tele/video conferencing methods
- Extensive computer experience in word processing, database input, and management, and Microsoft Suite required
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects, including routine administrative paperwork, phone calls, and filing. Produce ad hoc reports as required.
- Experience managing and stewarding large volunteer groups
- Experience with contract negotiation
- Interest in sports and/or intellectual disabilities is helpful, but not required
- Knowledge of GMS (Special Olympics software) is preferred
- Regular attendance required
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the planning and implementation of all Special Olympic Florida competitions in assigned area.
- Assist in securing Exhibition & Regional Games site venues, insurance, and EMT services as well as coordinating all aspects of the competitions
- Review and approve final competition divisions and collaborate with the Manager of Sports Administration to create schedules and other competition-related paperwork
- Recruit all officials, referees, and judges for Exhibition and Regional Competitions
- Recruit competition directors and sport committee members for Exhibition and Regional Competitions
- Conduct after-action meetings to assess the quality of each assigned competition and create after-action reports for future planning
- Plan and execute the Opening Ceremony and awards process for Exhibition and Regional Competitions
- Complete Run of Show for Opening Ceremony at all Exhibition and Regional Competitions
- Ensure every competition includes SOFL branded signage and tents and collaborate with Development to ensure sponsor recognition exists where necessary
- Ensure every assigned competition provides athletes with a safe and high-quality experience
- Organize coaches meetings/training for each sport before the start of each season
- Provide resources and support for all coaches (i.e. websites, resource manuals, books, etc.)
- Recruit sport-specific clinicians for coach trainings
- Attend SOFL Exhibition, Regional and State competitions
- Assist with the food services portion for all competitions. Contract with food vendors and devise meal plans, costs, and menus. Ensure that special dietary needs are met
- Manage uniforms, equipment, and supplies inventory and collaborate with the Manager of Sports Administration to ensure orders are placed.
- Support cause marketing campaigns including the Publix Torch Icon Campaign, Wawa Coin Campaign, and TD Bank
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Other duties as assigned
Special Requirements:
- Must be able to travel and complete weekend and evening duties as assigned
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
