What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Intern position at Special Olympics Alaska?
General Information: Special Olympics Alaska provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people with intellectual disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
Job Responsibilities: The Summer Intern shall be accountable to the department Managers, Vice President/COO and the President/CEO of Special Olympics Alaska, Inc. The Summer Intern responsibilities consist of assisting with the day-to-day activities of Special Olympics Alaska, Inc. including office administration, activities/events that occur on and off Campus that are related to health and fitness education, fundraising, games/tournaments, special events and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Familiar with Special Olympics Alaska mission, philosophy, general and sports rules. Experience with volunteer management, event planning, and office administration. Good computer, communication and organization skills. Ability to work nights and weekends.
Supervisor and Evaluation: Supervised by the Vice President/COO and department Managers.
Responsibilities include:
- Work with the Sports & Competition Manager to assist with Summer Games and USA Games prep and closeout.
- Work with the Unified Champion Schools Manager to assist with the School Program, specifically Camp Shriver Alaska 2026.
- Work with the Inclusive Health Manager to assist with Healthy Athletes.
- Work with the Community Programs Manager and Fundraising Events Manager to assist with LETR, BOMA Golf Tournament, Disability Pride and Alaska Distance Classic events.
- Work with the Sr. Marketing & Communications Manager to assist with the USA Games Send Off event.
- Other duties as assigned
Wage: Wage is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time temporary position Mid-May through Mid-August 2026.
