Occupational Therapist

Schedule: School Year

 

PURPOSE

Provide occupational therapy services for eligible students with disabilities to facilitate access to educational opportunities; develop, implement, evaluate and modify occupational therapy services, intervention, treatment and activities to enhance fine and gross motor, sensory processing, self-regulation and other functional abilities.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in occupational therapy or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong analytical, computer, oral, and written communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of specialized aspects, methods, processes, principles, practices, procedures, and terminology used in the field of occupational therapy
  • Valid certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) or Occupational Therapist Certification issued by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board
  • Valid certificate issued by the Occupational Therapy Committee of the Indiana State Licensing Board
  • CPR certification (must obtain and maintain)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Plan, develop, implement and oversee programs, occupational therapy services and treatment to enhance fine motor, gross motor, sensory regulation and visual motor/perception and other functional abilities and development in accordance with individual student needs; monitor, evaluate and adjust individual treatment programs and therapy activities in response to student needs and progress.
  2. Conduct student assessments and provide recommendations for occupational therapy intervention as appropriate; establish and maintain treatment and therapeutic goals and objectives.
  3. Confer and collaborate with teachers, parents, outside agencies and other personnel in the development and implementation of treatment programs, therapy services and related goals and objectives; attend and participate in case conferences and other meetings to address student needs.
  4. Provide consultation and technical support to teachers, staff, administrators, parents and others regarding student developmental needs, treatment procedures, therapy programs, treatment plans, guidelines, requirements, practices, procedures, and motor, fine motor, sensory and self-care programs.
  5. Compile information and prepare and maintain various records and reports related to students, progress, development, treatment, goals and assigned duties; prepare detailed individual case notes; coordinate paperwork with the Special Education department.
  6. Utilize, adjust, demonstrate and train other staff on the use of various adaptive and therapeutic equipment as appropriate; evaluate and identify adaptive equipment needs and make adaptations to equipment as appropriate; order repair and replacement for therapy equipment needed per students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  7. Develop, implement and conduct training activities concerning occupational therapy services and related principles, theories, standards, guidelines, practices, procedures and techniques for teachers, staff, parents and others.
  8. Maintain professional certification through conference attendance, workshops, and training.
  9. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

  • Manual Dexterity: Adeptness in the use of hands and fingers.
  • Postural Endurance: Sit or stand for prolonged periods, as the job requires.
  • Flexibility: Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch to perform specific duties.
  • Visual Acuity: Close vision ability with the capacity to adjust focus.
  • Mobility: Freedom to sit or walk at will throughout the work environment.
  • Strength and Stamina: Capability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to fifty (50) pounds or more.
  • Outdoor Work: Tolerance of work outside in various weather conditions.

Salary : $59,674 - $82,095
