PURPOSE

Plan, organize, coordinate and implement educational services, support functions, student programs and instructional resources to meet the special needs of students in an assigned disability area; assist in developing and implementing curriculum standards in assigned disability area. Assess student needs and provide assistance in identifying, developing and meeting educational goals and objectives. Coach and support building level staff to effectively meet the needs of students with disabilities.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree in education, and five-year teaching experience with special education students.
  • Must have strong planning, management, instructional coaching, analytical, computer, organizational, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Employee must possess knowledge of methods, terminology, principles, practices, procedures, materials, requirements, processes, policies, objectives and equipment applicable to assigned field.
  • Must have prior experience with implementation of evidence based best practices related to assigned disability area.
  • Employee must possess valid certification in assigned disability area issued by the Indiana Department of Education. Incumbents must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to prioritize demands and meet special education timelines
  • Experience with strategies to facilitate improved social, and academic outcomes for students
  • Effective or highly effective teaching performance in prior professional placement
  • Exemplary skills in development of Individual Education Plans (IEP’s)
  • Extensive experience developing/revising FBA/BIP to support appropriate behavior

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience conducting classroom observations
  • Experience facilitating instructional coaching or peer coaching

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Participate in the research, planning, development, implementation, evaluation and enhancement of assigned programs and services to meet the needs of identified special education students; monitor, evaluate and adjust activities in response to student needs.
  • Provide a variety of services to assure appropriate delivery of educational services to identified students in assigned disability area; observe and assess students to identify needs and monitor progress.
  • Assist in developing and implementing curriculum standards in assigned disability area; provide activities to enhance faculty and staff understanding of educational practices, instructional material guidelines, curriculum standards and instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with other departments to coordinate instructional activities to enhance student learning and achievement; provide recommendations concerning methods, plans and strategies for enhancing opportunities for students in assigned disability area.
  • Coordinate special education services, communications and information between teachers, administrators, staff, schools, outside agencies, students and parents.
  • Coordinate, consult with and assist faculty, staff, community program representatives and juvenile justice system as needed in meeting the needs of special education students in assigned disability area.
  • Provide adequate accommodations to meet the educational needs of identified special education students; recommend, transition services, assistive technology and materials for assigned disability area including curriculum for non-diploma track students.
  • Monitor and assess assigned special education services for educational effectiveness; recommend and assist in the development and implementation of standards, policies and procedures to enhance the educational effectiveness of special education services.
  • Monitor and analyze IEPs in assigned disability area; participate in the development and implementation of IEP.
  • Develop, implement and conduct professional learning activities for personnel, teachers and parents concerning assigned special education programs and services; prepare and deliver oral presentations.
  • Support and build staff capacity to conduct functional behavior assessments and develop behavior intervention plans in assigned disability area as needed.
  • Use data sources, and prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports and files related to special education programs, students and assigned activities to assist in programming decisions. Attend and participate in various meetings and conferences; present information concerning assigned special education services and related issues, student needs and activities.
  • Attend case conferences and manifestation determinations in assigned disability area.
  • In collaboration with principals and district staff, assist with meeting the educational needs of identified special education students; participate in a variety of activities to enhance faculty understanding of educational practices, instructional practices and techniques, and emotional development, de-escalation techniques, behavior modification and instructional strategies for special education students.

  • Perform related duties, as assigned.

To perform the essential functions of this job effectively and safely, employees must meet the following physical qualifications:

  • Communication Skills: Ability to speak clearly and hear effectively in various environments.
  • Manual Dexterity: Adeptness in the use of hands and fingers.
  • Postural Endurance: Sit or stand for prolonged periods, as the job requires.
  • Flexibility: Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch to perform specific duties.
  • Visual Acuity: Close vision ability with the capacity to adjust focus.
  • Mobility: Freedom to sit or walk at will throughout the work environment.
  • Strength and Stamina: Capability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to twenty (25) pounds or more.

Salary : $50,000 - $83,547
