Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking Registered Occupational Therapists to facilitate acquisition, remediation, and compensation for deficits in foundational motor skills necessary for classroom performance. Particular areas of emphasis include fine motor skills, sensory/perceptual motor skills, and self-care skills. The Occupational Therapist is also responsible for the screening, assessment, planning, and goal development of appropriate intervention services.
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs functions in the following areas: general development, self-help or self-care, needs for individual and environmental adaptations, functional mobility, motor skills, and musculoskeletal system, sensory motor integrative skills, pre-vocational and vocational skills.
- Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team whose purpose is to provide an appropriate educational program for the student with disabilities.
- Maintains essential records necessary to the efficient operation of the program including student data.
- Keeps abreast of recent developments in occupational therapy and shows evidence of continuing professional growth.
- Maintains a close liaison with teachers, parents, other therapists, and medical doctors, as appropriate.
- Adheres to the American Occupational Therapy Association Code of Ethics.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the director of special services or designee.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of medical aspects of the special needs student and their implications for instruction.

Knowledge of resources and techniques needed to integrate the special needs student into the least restrictive environment.

Thorough knowledge of subject(s) taught.

Thorough knowledge of elementary, secondary or special education principles, practices and procedures.

Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching.

Thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations and procedures.

Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior.

Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, administration, and parents.
Education and Experience:
Required
- Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university.
- Active (valid, non-expired) license to practice Occupational Therapy in the state of Virginia.
- Two (2) years of successful, full-time experience as a School Psychologist, ideally within a public education institution.

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 10-Month (200 Day), at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. This position is evaluated annually.
