Job Title: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant                                   Wage/Hour Status:

Primary Purpose: Provide integrated occupational therapy services under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist.       

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• Associate of applied science degree.
• Valid Texas license as an occupational therapy assistant issued by the Texas Board of Occupational.
• Therapy Examiners.

            Special Knowledge Skills:

• Ability to implement occupational therapy treatment programs as specified by occupational therapy plan of care.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).

Experience:

• One year experience in occupational therapy, including contact with school-age children.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Occupational Therapy Services

• Provide occupational therapy services as specified in the occupational therapy plan of care.
• Collect data according to established procedures to assist occupational therapist in screening and completing documentation of school functions (DSF’s) and evaluations for students. The OT assistant’s service competency must be established.
• Assist occupational therapist in developing OT plans of care.
• Assist with instructing teachers, staff, and parents in use of adaptive equipment, assistive technology programs or devices, and integration of therapy goals into the educational program.
• Interact with student regarding student’s condition, progress, and/or achievement of goals.
• Communicate with parents regarding individual students as directed by the occupational therapist.
• Attend planning meetings and participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee (ARD) meetings as directed by the occupational therapist.
• Assist with acquisition and maintenance of therapy equipment and supplies.

• Clerical
• Maintain accurate student records, including student progress notes, monthly tracking logs, and Medicaid billing.
• Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
• Compliance
• Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
• Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality.

Equipment Used:

Wheelchairs, adapted chairs, swing equipment and frames, computers and accessories, and switches.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling and regular heavy lifting of students. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations, as assigned.
