What are the responsibilities and job description for the Anticipated IEP Coordinator/EXCEL Coordinator position at Special Education?
MSAD 60 is looking for an IEP Coordinator / Excel Coordinator to work with and support the continuum of services across the district. The IEP coordinator will support the development and implementation of individualized educational plans. Candidates should have a strong understanding of Maine special education laws and regulations and be comfortable applying those regulations to real life situations as well as an understanding of developmental needs of diverse learners and twice exceptional students. They should also have knowledge and experience developing, implementing and adjusting positive support plans. This position is also responsible for ensuring that special education and gifted students are identified, supported, and challenged. The coordinator collaborates with administrators, teachers, and parents to implement high quality programming. This position falls under the teacher contract.
Qualifications:
1. Maine Department of Education certification in Special Education (#282, #035, or #030
endorsement).
2. Masters Degree or working towards Master’s Degree in Special Education / Administration
3. At least three years of teaching experience in Special Education.
4. Demonstrated understanding of special education law.
Responsibilities:
1. Facilitation of IEP meetings: Triennials and Program Reviews throughout the district.
2. Oversee paperwork in collaboration with case managers to ensure compliance of
state and federal mandates.
3. Collaborate with special education teams to develop innovative, individual plans to meet student needs.
4. Review files of transfer students, communicate with staff about new students, and schedule transfer IEP meetings.
5. Collaborate with special education staff to develop and implement positive support plans, data collection systems, and appropriate annual goals.
6. Review referrals with student assistance teams, teachers, parents etc and complete written notices upon their acceptance.
7. Serve as an integral member of the district special education leadership team.
8. Participate in interviewing and hiring candidates for open positions in the special education department.
9. Work with the special education administration to implement building based IEP basic PD.
10. Implement and maintain procedures for identifying and screening EXCEL students.
11. Support continuous programming that meets the needs of identified learners.
12. Address questions and concerns in partnership with school staff and families.
13. Coordinate and facilitate gifted and talented identification meetings.
