Job Description: School Nurse LPN
Position: School Nurse – LPN
Supervisor: District Nurse (RN) and Principal
Payment Rate: According to Educational Support Staff Salary Schedule
Qualifications:
? Current Kansas Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License
? Completion of an approved practical nursing program
? Current certification in BLS
? Experience in pediatrics and/or school setting preferred
? Knowledge of health equipment and computer applications
? Maintain current TB testing as required by Health Department regulations
Position Function: The School Nurse-LPN provides school health services under the
direction of the District Nurse (RN) and building principal. The LPN assists in implementing
student health services, supporting student wellness, and maintaining a safe school
environment.
Essential Functions:
? Serves as a health advocate for students under RN supervision
? Promotes a safe and healthy school environment
? Supports health education efforts
? Implements health care plans as delegated
? Performs basic health screenings
? Collaborates with school personnel
? Communicates routine health concerns; refers complex issues to RN
? Supports communication with families and healthcare providers
? Participates in student support teams as appropriate
? Monitors communicable diseases and immunization compliance
? Provides first aid and emergency care
? Administers medications per policy
? Maintains accurate health records
? Ensures supplies and equipment are maintained
? Maintains confidentiality
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
? Knowledge of basic nursing care and student health needs
? Understanding of child growth and development
? Familiarity with public health practices
? Awareness of applicable laws and regulations
? Ability to recognize signs of illness
? Strong communication and interpersonal skills
? Ability to collaborate with supervising RN
Interrelations:
? Frequent contact with students, staff, and families
? Ability to work with diverse populations professionally
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
? Work in noisy and crowded environments
? Use of protective equipment when needed
? Ability to lift and move objects
Terms of Employment:
? At will employment
? Up to a 40-hour work week
? Report to school 15-30 minutes before school begins and stays 15-30 minutes after
school ends.
? Remain on campus unless approved
Performance Review:
? Evaluated in accordance with Kansas Statutes and Board of Education Policy
