ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
  2. Provides instructional, vocational and developmental assistance to students who are emotionally disabled as prescribed by the supervising teacher or other certified professional.
  3. Applies basic practices of effective behavioral management, and assists in the teaching of problem solving skills to students as prescribed by the supervising teacher, guidance counselor, or administrator.
  4. Assists with behavior management programs including monitoring and charting behaviors specific to individual behavior plans.
  5. Provides assistance in the learning area in dealing with behavioral issues by applying crisis intervention to students with aggressive behavior and restraining violent students as needed.
  6. Assists students as they arrive on buses taking them to and from learning areas and monitoring entrance conditions of individual students.
  7. Escorts, supervises, and provides assistance to students during breakfast, lunch, restroom visits, and other activities.
  8. Assists in the preparation of lesson plans, behavior modification plans, and teacher's pre-planning sessions; provides input and assistance in the development of learning activities; prepares or assists in the preparation of instructional and vocational materials.
  9. Assists students with gross motor activities, such as grasping, holding objects, posture, crawling, walking, and running, as appropriate to individual development.
  10. Assists students with fine motor activities, such as handling manipulatives, cutting materials, and coloring, as appropriate to individual development.
  11. Assists students with daily living skills, such as dressing, eating, lavatory needs, grooming, and personal hygiene as appropriate to individual development.
  12. Perform other job duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High school Diploma. Candidates must possess an AA or 60 semester college credits, or proof of a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment. Candidates not HQ at time of hire must be HQ within 60 days of hire.
  2. Current CPR and First Aide cards are required. (No online classes)
  3. Capable of working with children one-on-one and in groups.
  4. Displays the ability to work with a variety of students with disabilities including: emotional disabilities, autistic, mildly mentally retarded and non-verbal students.
  5. Preferred experience working with school age children with exceptional needs in an educational environment that provides broad familiarity and understanding of the physical and emotional behaviors and challenges of children with severe disabilities; with demonstrated stress management skills
  6. Ability to relate to students, parents and teachers in a positive manner. Ability to build relationship of trust with students.
  7. Skills and ability to perform the functions of the job to include: instruction, computer, basic academic matters, problem solving and managing work assignments.
  8. Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.
  9. Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:

  1. Frequent communication with parents, students, and staff including the exchange of accurate information.
  2. Frequent interaction with students by bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles, bending legs at knee to come to rest on knees, or sitting on the floor requiring to resume an upright position.
  3. Moving about on foot and remaining on one’s feet in an upright position while supervising student(s).
  4. Raising or lowering an object from one level ranging from 25-50 lbs.
  5. Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force or towards the force.
  6. Ascending and descending small ladder with agility.
  7. Required to have visual acuity to perform activities with student(s).

Term of Employment: Full-Time Position – 10 Month Monday - Friday 

 

Salary Classification:  Appropriate salary placement on the Support Staff Salary Schedule.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Administrator according to District Policy.

 

TOTAL PAID HOLIDAYS: 14; 35 Hours per week
