SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager administers and directs manufacturing engineering including Machine Improvement Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production and Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, programmers, and Machine Shop.   Coordinates new product launches.   Responsible for process development including equipment, capability, and procedures.  Interfaces with customers on technical issues.  Responsible for facility and capital equipment planning and the Manufacturing Engineering department annual budget.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Plans and coordinates short and long term manpower needs to support division goals.
  • Develops and implements Manufacturing Engineering goals and action plans to meet Division strategic objectives including Safety, Machine Productivity, Machine Capability, Scrap and Rework, and Labor Content.
  • Works with Engineers from other DSSA, Inc. and Daicel sites to implement new products and processes, share ideas and help improve manufacturing operations worldwide.
  • Develops site capital plans to support division objectives.
  • Directs development of PFMEA and SFMEA for all products/processes.
  • Participates in review and major safety incidents for determination of containment, root cause and corrective action.
  • Leads Manufacturing Engineers in determining containment, root cause and corrective action for product failures.
  • Develops site facility plans in regards to new processes and equipment to meet divisions objectives.
  • Contributes to Advanced Quality Planning and Design Reviews for new products and processes.
  • Participates in development of Human Resources, Plant, and Division Policies and Procedures.
  • Directs development of Station Standards for all processes.
  • Reviews and develops plans for implementation of new manufacturing technologies applicable to current and future processes.
  • Develops measurement systems to determine performance to goals.
  • Participates on Material Review Board.
  • Develops labor standards for all processes.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • BS in technical discipline required, MS desired or relate automotive initiator manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum 5 years engineering supervisor or management experience.
  • Experience with automated assembly equipment and maintenance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must be able to make informed and concise presentations to internal and external customers as required.
  • Computer literate in spreadsheet and word processing software.

The individual in this position will be a self-starter with the ability to meet committed schedules. Must be able to understand all policies, procedures, instructions, rules and regulations associated with this position, which are written in English.  In addition, the individual must be able to appropriately respond to these and, where needed, provide reports, presentations, information and communications in English.  Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and at all levels within the company.  Must be available to work days, evenings, or weekends, and overtime as required. Travel both domestically and international as required.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Must possess the ability to read, comprehend, and interpret complex data, drawings, schematics, to design and implement new equipment or planning new experiments.   Must be able to generate, adaptation or modification of process controls, procedures, and other related documentation.  Requires interpretation of complex data for designing new devices or planning new experiments.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to lighting and temperature as required for the office and manufacturing areas.  Appropriate safety equipment is required by area.  There is potential exposure to hazardous chemicals.  May be required to monitor hazardous operations in prototype, production, and test areas.  The employee is exposed to the inherent dangers of the explosive materials used in DSSA, Inc. manufacturing processes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move throughout the facility, traverse within production areas, communicate with others, and detect or exchange information or ideas.  The employee occasionally is required to perform functions which require the manual operation of both general office productivity and manufacturing equipment as well as the ability to place, reach, detect, ascend/descend, and position self to navigate within confined working spaces.   The employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position.  The employee must occasionally move or transport up to 25 pounds.   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close inspection, identification of objects from a distance, color determination, peripheral detection, depth judgment, and the ability to identify details in varying conditions.
