SUMMARY

Responsible for planning, quoting, procuring, monitoring, and managing the delivery of materials, chemicals, and services for production/engineering applications, including coordination with suppliers for awareness/compliance with rules/regulations for handling of hazardous materials; monitoring supplier performance; in accordance with company procedures, policies, and purchasing practices.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyzes and reviews production requirements related for assigned commodities
  • Solicits proposals, negotiates pricing/terms, and issues purchase orders, in accordance with company policies and procedures, for domestic and international facilities 
  • Sends signals and monthly forecasts to suppliers as required
  • Resolve invoicing issues with accounting and suppliers
  • Maintains purchasing information, files, and records (POs, quotes, supplier/vendor files, credit card log, etc.) to ensure availability of documentation and compliance with procedures
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of providing information regarding orders or potential orders
  • Attends internal team meetings to identify new product demands, schedules, and procurement needs. Forecasts requirements and orders products to meet sales demands
  • Performs other duties as needed for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Preferred educational experience includes a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related discipline from an accredited institution. Additional purchasing experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree. Minimum two (2) years of high-volume purchasing experience (or related discipline), with preference for the automotive industry: custom components – stamping, forming, injection molding, machining, and/or regulated chemicals used in flammable or explosive industries. Must have some knowledge and experience with purchasing and contracting practices, including general knowledge of Uniform Commercial Code (UCC). Experience with Syspro Material Requirements Planning or similar systems is considered a plus.

The individual in this position will be a self-starter with the ability to meet committed schedules. Must be able to understand all policies, procedures, instructions, rules, and regulations associated with this position, which are written in English. Must have hands-on computer experience with current spreadsheet software used for processing POs, parts tracking, and inventory systems. This position requires a high proficiency in Microsoft Excel (i.e. Data Analysis, PivotTables, advanced formulas and functions, custom formatting, etc.).

In addition, the individual must be able to appropriately respond to these and, where needed, provide reports, presentations, information, and communications in English as well as successfully meet requirements of BAFTE for procuring explosives. 


Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and at all levels within the company. Must be available to workdays, evenings, or weekends, and overtime as required.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in written and diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Must possess the ability to read, comprehend, and interpret complex data, drawings, schematics to design and implement new equipment or plan new experiments. Must be able to generate, adaptation or modification of process controls, procedures, and other related documentation. Requires interpretation of complex data for designing new devices or planning new experiments. Must be able to understand and apply DSSA, Inc. documentation including SOP, MI, PS, PMP, MSP, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to lighting and temperature as required for the office and manufacturing areas. Appropriate safety equipment is required by area. There is potential exposure to hazardous chemicals. A considerable amount of moving from department to department may occur in unfavorable weather conditions. The employee is exposed to the inherent dangers of the explosive materials used in DSSA’s manufacturing processes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move throughout the facility, traverse within production areas, communicate with others, and detect or exchange information or ideas. The employee occasionally is required to perform functions which require the manual operation of both general office productivity and manufacturing equipment as well as the ability to place, reach, detect, ascend/descend, and position self to navigate within confined working spaces. The employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position. The employee must occasionally move or transport up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close inspection, identification of objects from a distance, color determination, peripheral detection, depth judgment, and the ability to identify details in varying conditions.
