Position Title: Operating Room Circulator RN, Surgical Services

Reports to: Nursing Director


General Summary:

Part- time OR RN- work two 8-hour shifts per week plus on call Monday-Thursday nights.

Under the direction of the Nurse Clinical Coordinator, Nurse Director of Surgical Services and Chief Nursing Officer the Or Circulator RN is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective and quality patient-family centered care in the operating room and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations. Surgical services supports the mission, vision and values of the organization. The Operating Room follows Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) standards, Central Sterile (CS) follows Association of the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) follows the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) standards.

Perioperative nurses use the nursing process to develop individualized plans of care and to coordinate and deliver care to patients undergoing operative or other invasive procedures. Perioperative nurses have the skills and knowledge to assess, diagnose, plan, intervene, and evaluate the outcomes of nursing interventions. Along with multidisciplinary teams, perioperative RNs identify needs, establish goals, and develop a plan of care to achieve optimal outcomes with patients and their designated support person(s).

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assess patients pre-procedure and ongoing as needed.
  • Develop an individualized perioperative plan of care.
  • Implement the plan of care using individualized patient and surgical specialty interventions
  • Evaluates and monitors the sterile field/environment throughout surgical procedure.
  • Completes documentation of procedure.
  • Educates patients on perioperative process.
  • Protect patient from injury.
  • Perform count procedures to protect patient from unintended retained foreign objects.
  • Perform interventions necessary to ensure patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side and level.
  • Manage patient’s specimen(s) correctly.
  • Communicate patient’s current status throughout the continuum of care.
  • Administer medication(s) appropriately.
  • Perform interventions to maintain patient’s skin integrity.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the status of the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular and neurological systems, as well as fluid, electrolyte and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels.
  • Perform interventions to ensure patient’s temperature remains normal preoperatively, intraoperatively as well as during transportation to recovery room.
  • Perform interventions to protect patient from surgical site infections.
  • Assess knowledge level of patient or designated support person and provide education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses in the operative or invasive procedure.
  • Actively involve patient or designated support person in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process.
  • Protect patient’s rights, dignity and privacy.
  • Provide culturally competent, age-appropriate ethical care within legal standards of practice.

Qualifications:

Education:

Required: Associates Degree in Nursing

Preferred: Bachelors in Nursing


Work Experience:


Required: Previous experience in the acute health care setting or similar with operating room experience.


Requirements:

Registered Nurse in the State of New Hampshire

Current BLS (adult, child, infant)

ACLS required within 6 months

Schedule: Part Time, Rotating, On call Monday-Thursday nights; work 16 hours/week get paid for 32 hours /week
