Position Overview

We are seeking an Expert-Level Mobile Software Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in Android and iOS development to join a large banking organization in Columbus, Ohio.

This engineer will work on the UI and homepage of the bank's mobile application as part of a high-visibility Digital initiative. The ideal candidate will be capable of taking ownership of projects from architecture and design through development, testing, debugging, and production deployment.

This is a highly hands-on engineering position. The selected candidate will work in a collaborative Agile environment with product owners, mobile architects, and other engineering teams to build next-generation mobile experiences used by a large customer base.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, debug, and deploy high-quality mobile application features.
• Work on the bank's mobile app UI and homepage experience.
• Develop scalable mobile features using Kotlin, Android Jetpack, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Flow, and Retrofit.
• Contribute to both Android and iOS development and mobile design practices.
• Own features and projects end-to-end, from technical design through production release.
• Develop test-driven mobile application features following Agile methodologies.
• Design and implement modular, maintainable mobile architectures.
• Work with product owners, mobile architects, UX/design teams, and adjacent engineering teams.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues.
• Ensure application code follows industry coding standards, security practices, and engineering best practices.
• Contribute to Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, automated testing, resiliency, security, and cloud development initiatives.
• Evaluate emerging mobile technologies and recommend improvements where appropriate.
• Help establish development patterns and best practices for large-scale, production-grade mobile applications.
• Mentor and coach other engineers on mobile development and technical practices.
• Take ownership of technical decisions and deliverables with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications

• Expert-level experience in Android and mobile application development.
• Strong hands-on experience with Kotlin.
• Strong experience with Android Jetpack and Jetpack Compose.
• Experience developing applications for iOS.
• Strong understanding of mobile application architecture and design patterns.
• Experience with Coroutines and Flow for asynchronoreactive programming.
• Experience with Retrofit and API integration.
• Experience building and supporting applications in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Strong understanding of the complete Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Strong knowledge of TDD, CI/CD, security, resiliency, and automated testing.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and drive projects to completion.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP).
• Experience working on large-scale banking or financial applications.
• Experience with consumer-facing mobile applications.
• Experience working in highly regulated environments.
• Experience with cloud-based application development.

• Experience mentoring engineers or serving as a technical lead.
• Exposure to multiple operating systems and enterprise infrastructure environments.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an expert-level mobile engineer rather than simply an Android developer. They should be comfortable making architecture and design decisions, writing production code, debugging complex issues, and owning a feature from concept technical design development testing production.

The manager is specifically looking for someone who can take ownership and run with a project independently, while collaborating effectively within a large Agile engineering organization.
