What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Spear Education?
Are you a detail-driven accounting leader with a passion for building efficient processes and developing high-performing teams? We’re looking for an Assistant Controller to join our growing accounting team and play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and operational excellence.
What You’ll Do
- Lead accurate month-end and year-end close processes in compliance with GAAP.
- Oversee ASC 606 compliance, revenue recognition, and documentation.
- Act as a primary liaison for external audits and reviews.
- Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Support optimization of NetSuite with internal and external partners.
- Contribute to ad hoc projects, providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Active CPA license (required).
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 years in a managerial role.
- Experience leading accounting operations including AP/AR, G/L, and reconciliations.
- Strong technical accounting skills with expertise in GAAP and ASC 606.
- Experience with NetSuite (preferred).
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with international accounting operations (a plus).
