Superintendent - Roadway Heavy Civil Construction
Spear D Construction is seeking an experienced and motivated Superintendent to oversee field operations for roadway, highway, grading, paving, utility, and heavy civil construction projects. This role is responsible for managing daily jobsite activities, coordinating crews, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and according to project specifications.
The Superintendent serves as the key link between the field and office, working closely with Project Managers, foremen, crews, inspectors, subcontractors, and clients to maintain productivity, quality, and clear communication on all projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee daily field operations for roadway, highway, grading, paving, utility, and heavy civil construction projects.
- Coordinate crews, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and suppliers to ensure work is ready before each phase begins.
- Supervise grading, excavation, asphalt paving, concrete, drainage, underground utilities, site preparation, and roadway construction activities.
- Maintain project schedules and provide regular updates to Project Managers and leadership.
- Track production, manpower, equipment usage, and job progress to ensure work stays on schedule and within project expectations.
- Maintain a 2-week lookahead schedule for upcoming work, materials, equipment, inspections, and subcontractor needs.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, foremen, field teams, subcontractors, inspectors, municipalities, and clients.
- Ensure work is completed according to plans, specifications, codes, safety standards, and company quality expectations.
- Monitor jobsite safety and ensure compliance with OSHA standards, company policies, traffic control requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Identify project delays, conflicts, or field issues early and help develop practical solutions.
- Conduct and participate in pre-construction meetings, scheduling meetings, progress meetings, and daily field coordination.
- Maintain accurate jobsite documentation, daily reports, communication logs, inspection records, and project updates.
- Manage project closeout, including punch lists, testing, inspections, as-builts, and final documentation.
Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in a construction field supervision, foreman, or superintendent role.
- Experience with roadway, highway, grading, paving, sitework, utilities, or heavy civil construction strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, grades, elevations, and project schedules.
- Knowledge of grading, earthwork, asphalt paving, concrete, drainage, underground utilities, and roadway construction methods.
- Proven ability to lead crews, coordinate subcontractors, and manage multiple jobsite activities at the same time.
- Ability to plan ahead, solve field problems, and keep projects moving safely and efficiently.
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to work closely with Project Managers, inspectors, clients, subcontractors, and field crews.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Experience
- NMDOT, municipal, county, or public works project experience.
- Experience with roadway reconstruction, street improvements, highway work, grade and pave projects, or infrastructure improvements.
- Knowledge of traffic control, SWPPP, erosion control, compaction testing, and quality control requirements.
- Experience tracking production, equipment usage, labor hours, and material quantities.

Pay: $87,500.00 - $115,000.00 per year
