What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time contract opportunity for social workers and helping professionals — get paid and get practice position at SpeakCalmHQ?
I'm building a small on-call pool of backup facilitators for SpeakCalmHQ™ Practice Clubs. This is an online community helping professionals overcome high public speaking anxiety and panic through guided speaking exposures on Zoom. Members are professionals, ages 28–50, from around the world. Go to https://speakcalmhq.com/public-speaking-practice/.
This is a remote, part-time, independent contractor (1099) role — not a permanent position, and not a guaranteed schedule. This is a virtual remote position on Zoom.
Here's how it works: when a session needs coverage, I go down a contact list. You decide whether to take it. You're not obligated, but I'm looking for people who are motivated to say yes when they're available. You'll typically have a week or more of advance notice, though occasionally less if a facilitator has an unexpected emergency. Some weeks you may facilitate once or more. Some weeks, not at all.
Current Practice Club sessions (Eastern Time):
- Monday 6:45 AM
- Tuesday 1:00 PM
- Wednesday 8:30 PM
- Thursday 8:00 PM
- Saturday 1:00 PM
Each session is one hour on Zoom. Every slot has a permanent facilitator — you'd be the backup when they can't make it. Only apply if at least one of these time slots could work for you.
What you get out of this:
- $20 per session. A session is about 1 hour but might run a bit over.
- Real facilitation practice. You'll run a small, structured group through a speaking exercise — guiding participants, managing group dynamics, giving feedback. That's directly applicable to social work and counseling practice, and it looks good on your resume or CV.
- Public speaking practice. You'll be on camera, leading a group, and managing anxiety in the room — including your own. This role was specifically designed with helping professionals in mind who may still be working through their own speaking anxiety. That's not a disqualifier here. It's actually a plus.
Training before you ever go solo. I'll walk you through the format before your first session. You won't be dropped in cold.
What I'm looking for:
- Background in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related helping field — students and early-career professionals welcome
- Reliable when you say yes
- Some personal experience with public speaking anxiety — you don't need to have fully "overcome" it, but you need to be in a place where you can facilitate a group through it
- Comfortable on Zoom
- Genuinely motivated to take assignments when available, even with an unpredictable schedule
This is a good fit if you're building your skills and confidence. It's not often a side opportunity pays you, builds your resume, and works on something you're personally working through, all at the same time. Please note this role cannot be used toward supervised clinical hours.
Next steps for selected candidates: I'll invite you to a paid one-hour group training session, plus a paid observation of a Saturday Practice Club session so you can see exactly how it works before you ever facilitate on your own. I'm hoping to move quickly and get this done within the next few weeks.
To apply: Submit your resume and a brief note (a few sentences is fine) addressing three things: which time slot(s) could work for you, what attracts you to this job, and your personal experience with public speaking anxiety.
