Director of Volunteer Services
The SPCA of Wake County seeks a high-energy, exceptionally organized, people-loving professional to lead its essentially important volunteer program into the future. Responsibilities include developing effective policies, procedures and guidelines for the volunteer program; driving program growth; recruiting, training, motivating, and coaching our volunteers; nurturing positive staff/volunteer relationships, and working collaboratively with others to meet the needs of the organization.

Required Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years experience in a leadership role
- Working knowledge of animal care & fear-free handling
- Must love animals and care about people
- Passion for the mission and core values of the SPCA of Wake County
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends & holidays as needed
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with flexibility for fast-paced, daily change
- High degree of professionalism and exceptional communication skills
- Must have a positive attitude and collaborative, team-oriented spirit
- Must be high energy, self-starting, and able to work with little supervision
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong communication skills
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn fear free animal handling techniques
- Knowledge of animal health, care, and welfare
- Understanding of animal biosecurity and disease control
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and accurate record-keeping
- Strong time and priority management abilities
Essential Duties:
- Maintain the accuracy of volunteer records
- Ensure that volunteer shifts are filled in a timely manner, particularly in the instances of urgent needs
- Communicate clearly & accurately with volunteers on a consistent basis
- Ensure that all volunteers are onboarded, trained, and completing their duties in a safe manner
- Coordinate & assist with volunteer training
- Serve as liaison between volunteers and staff
- Work closely with other staff to identify shifts that need to be filled
- Recruit volunteers via phone, email, Salesforce, and other platforms
- Understand and train volunteers to implement biosecurity protocols to help prevent disease outbreak
Physical Demands and Work Conditions:
- Must be able to meet all physical requirements including: standing, walking, lifting (50 lbs) carrying (50 lbs), pushing (50 lbs), pulling (50 lbs), climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching overhead, handing, seeing, depth perception, and hearing.
- Exposure to fractious animals.
- Able to work in an environment with high noise level and foul odors.
- Able to work with canines, felines, and small animals of all ages.
- Must be able to work in very cold and very hot temperatures, indoors and out.
- Is likely to be exposed to parasites, viruses, bacteria, and fungi which could be zoonotic.
- Fast paced and changing workload which at times can be stressful.
Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
