What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Caregiver position at SPCA in Cattaraugus County?
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform routine housekeeping duties necessary for optimal cleanliness and sanitation of all animal quarters and other routine assignments to maintain the shelter appearance and presentation
- Ensure that all animals are fed, watered, and exercised in the manner necessary to maintain optimal comfort and health
- Participate in enrichment activities for all animals. Examples are engaging animals with toys, walking/petting dogs and cats, practicing good behavior with treat motivation or positive reinforcement
- Monitor all animals for signs of illness and/or behavioral issues and report any observations to appropriate staff
- Maintain routine daily records, as required
- Restock supplies and report low inventory to appropriate staff
- Keep workspace and surrounding areas clean and free from clutter
- Work with volunteers who assist with animal care and cleaning activities
- Perform all other duties as assigned by your manager
Preferred Requirements:
- Flexible schedule, approx 15-25 hrs/week
- Collaborative team working style
- Demonstrate an attitude of consideration and courtesy to members of the public, co-workers, and volunteers
- Commitment to the mission and vision of the SPCA in Cattaraugus County
- Prefer experience handling dogs and cats
- Able to lift 40 lbs (dog food, cat litter, etc.)
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, and standing on feet for long hours per day while performing job functions
- Able to withstand exposure to the outdoor elements, when needed (rain, cold, etc)
- Able to handle disinfectant solutions
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to function and focus in a demanding and fast-paced environment
Conditions of Employment
- Conditions of employment include working under adverse conditions such as inclement weather and noise with daily exposure to infectious diseases, parasites and animal waste in a physically and emotionally demanding environment.
